Department: Marketing • Location: In-Office: The Woodlands, TX • Employment Type: Full-Time Experience Level: Director-Level • Reports To: [TBD] • Direct Reports: Marketing Manager, Marketing Coordinator, Copywriter, Graphic Designer, Video Editor, Paid Media Buyer, Data Analyst, Social Media Coordinator Salary: $95,000 – $130,000
Brave Books launches 20+ books per year. Each one needs paid ads, email sequences, landing pages, PR, and a promotional calendar. Meanwhile, the evergreen catalog still has to sell, and our subscription still has to grow.
We have a talented marketing team and more demand than capacity. What we need is the person who owns the whole department's throughput. Who unblocks people all day, makes decisions fast enough that nobody waits, and builds the team into something that scales.
Responsibilities:
- Own the department's output: Paid ads, email, organic, creative, PR coordination, and the promotional calendar. All outputs must be on time and executed with excellence.
- Solve the day-to-day. There will be changes, problems, and opportunities that need to be acted on quickly. You'll make dozens of decisions a day, quickly
- Planning. With 20+ launches plus evergreen and subscription promotions, the constraint is the team's focus. You'll decide what's a priority and what waits.
- Manage and develop the team. You'll run one-on-ones, set clear standards, give hard feedback early, and grow people into more capable versions of themselves. You'll also identify where we're thin and hire into it.
- Never be the bottleneck. Your job is to be the reason work moves, not the reason it waits. If a decision needs to come from you, it comes ASAP.
- Hold the numbers. Channel performance, CAC, ROAS, email revenue, launch results. You'll know where we are against target and what you're changing about it.
- Work across departments. Product Development, Launch Team, Operations, and Partnerships all touch your calendar. You’ll need to understand how to effectively communicate with all other departments.
- Build the systems that make success repeatable. SOPs, templates, and talent that gives us structure so that the team isn't reinventing every launch.
What we're looking for:
- Calm under volume. Ten things are on fire, and you can prioritize and manage it all.
- Decisive. You'd rather make a good call now than a perfect one Friday. You know which decisions are reversible and you move fast on them.
- A genuine manager. You enjoy developing people, and put them above yourself. You'll have the uncomfortable conversation early instead of letting a problem compound for six months.
- Hands still dirty. You have the skills to write the brief yourself, read the data, and rewrite the subject line. You need to deeply understand what your department does and how to do it yourself.
- Ruthless about priority. You'll hold the line on your priorities and not cave under pressure when someone proposes something that could threaten your goals.
Required qualifications:
- 5+ years in marketing with at least 2 years directly managing a team
- Track record running multi-channel campaigns (paid, email, organic) against revenue targets
- Experience managing a promotional calendar with many concurrent workstreams
- Strong command of performance metrics and comfort making budget decisions from data
- Demonstrated ability to develop people, not just direct them
- Excellent written communication and the ability to give clear, actionable feedback
Preferred qualifications:
- DTC ecommerce, subscription, publishing, or media background
- Experience marketing through creator or influencer partnerships
- Hands-on history in at least one core channel (paid, email, or content) before moving into management
- Experience building a marketing function rather than inheriting a mature one
- Familiarity with Shopify, Klaviyo, Meta Ads Manager, and project management tools like Monday.com
- Background with faith-based or values-driven brands
Why you'd want this job:
You get a real team, a real budget, and an audience that already trusts us. The demand problem is solved; creators bring us enormous attention. What's unsolved is capacity and coordination, which is exactly what a good operator fixes. You'll see the results of your sequencing within weeks, not quarters, and the department you build will be one you shaped from the studs.
Brave Books offers a competitive salary and regular additional incentives. Full-time employees will be eligible for a benefits package that includes a 401(k), health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, PTO, employee discounts, and professional development credits.
