About the role

We are looking for a Director of Graphic Design to lead our graphic design team and raise the quality, consistency, and reliability of creative work across the company. This is a hands-on leadership role. The right candidate is not only an experienced manager but also an exceptional designer who can jump into projects, solve creative problems, provide meaningful feedback, and set the standard for the rest of the team.

This person will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of the Graphics Department, developing designers, establishing and maintaining brand standards, and ensuring projects are organized, accurate, and delivered on time. We are looking for someone who takes pride in great design but cares just as much about execution, organization, details, and deadlines.

Responsibilities

Lead the Graphics Team

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of graphic and motion designers.
  • Provide clear creative direction and actionable feedback.
  • Establish a high standard for design quality across the department.
  • Help designers improve their skills, decision-making, efficiency, and consistency.
  • Assign projects based on priorities, deadlines, workload, and individual strengths.
  • Create accountability around ownership, communication, and project completion.
  • Conduct regular team meetings and 1:1s to keep projects and individual development on track.

Set the Creative Standard

  • Be an expert-level graphic designer capable of producing high-quality work across a wide range of projects.
  • Work fluently in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, and the broader Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Step into important or challenging projects when needed.
  • Review work before delivery and ensure it meets the company's creative standards.
  • Provide thoughtful feedback that improves both the individual project and the designer creating it.
  • Establish a consistent creative standard across all company brands and platforms.

Develop & Maintain Brand Guidelines

  • Develop, document, and implement comprehensive brand guidelines across all company brands.
  • Ensure each brand has a clear and consistent visual identity while still fitting within the broader company ecosystem.
  • Establish standards for typography, color, logo usage, layout, imagery, templates, and other core visual elements.
  • Ensure designers and cross-functional teams understand and consistently apply established brand standards.
  • Continually evolve brand guidelines as the company, products, and creative needs grow.
  • Identify inconsistencies across existing creative and develop solutions to create greater cohesion and brand recognition.

Own Project Management & Deadlines

  • Oversee the Graphics Department's workflow from request through final delivery.
  • Manage projects and assignments through task management platforms such as monday.com.
  • Maintain visibility into every active project, its owner, priority, status, and deadline.
  • Identify potential bottlenecks or missed deadlines before they become problems.
  • Communicate proactively when priorities, resources, or timelines need to change.
  • Build systems and processes that allow the department to handle a high volume of work efficiently.
  • Treat deadlines as commitments and create a team culture where missing one is the exception, not the norm.

Maintain Exceptional Attention to Detail

  • Serve as a final quality-control checkpoint for important creative work.
  • Catch spelling errors, alignment issues, incorrect assets, inconsistencies, formatting problems, and other small mistakes before work is delivered.
  • Ensure feedback is fully addressed before projects are considered complete.
  • Maintain organized project files, assets, templates, and shared resources.
  • Establish processes that reduce preventable mistakes and unnecessary revisions.
  • Collaborate Across the Company
  • Work closely with multiple departments to understand project goals, priorities, timelines, and business needs.
  • Translate business objectives into effective visual creative.
  • Ask the right questions upfront to ensure designers understand the purpose and expectations of each project.
  • Partner with department leaders to prioritize work and ensure the Graphics Team is focused on the highest-impact projects.
  • Balance creative ambition with the realities of timelines, resources, and business priorities.

What We're Looking For

  • Extensive professional graphic design experience with a portfolio demonstrating excellent design judgment and execution.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, and other relevant design tools.
  • Proven experience leading and managing a team of designers.
  • Experience developing and implementing brand guidelines across multiple brands or business units.
  • Strong ability to give constructive creative feedback and develop other designers.
  • Highly organized and comfortable managing a large number of simultaneous projects.
  • Experience using project-management tools such as monday.com, Asana, ClickUp, or similar platforms.
  • Extremely deadline-oriented with a strong sense of ownership and urgency.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to identify small mistakes others may overlook and a willingness to correct them rather than letting them slide.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both creative and non-creative stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where priorities can change quickly.
  • Able to balance creative excellence with speed, efficiency, and business needs.

The Person Who Will Excel in This Role

You will likely thrive in this position if you

  • Have a high creative bar. Good enough is rarely good enough when something can clearly be better.
  • Are still a designer at heart. You enjoy leading people, but you also love the craft and can personally execute at a high level.
  • Love organization. You want every project to have an owner, deadline, priority, and clearly defined next step.
  • Take deadlines personally. You plan ahead, communicate early, and do everything possible to prevent projects from becoming late.
  • Notice the little things. A typo, incorrect logo, spacing issue, inconsistent font, or slightly misaligned element bothers you enough to fix it.
  • Hold people accountable. You are supportive of your team while maintaining clear expectations around quality and execution.
  • Improve systems. When a workflow isn't working, you don't simply work around it. You find a better way to operate.

Success in This Role

A successful Director of Graphic Design will build a department that is known internally for three things: Great work. Reliable execution. Attention to detail.

The Graphics Team should be a department that the rest of the company can trust to take an assignment, understand the objective, produce excellent creative, and deliver it correctly and on time.
