Compensation: College credit for college students; unpaid for recent graduates
Company: MADE HMBL Gym (a MADE Hoops facility)
Location: On-Site (Fort Greene, Brooklyn, NY)
Reports To: Marketing Manager

Company Description

MADE HMBL Gym is a premier basketball player development facility in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, built in partnership between MADE Hoops and HMBL. We offer private, semi-private, and group training alongside strength and plyometrics programming for athletes of all ages and levels. MADE Hoops is the premier grassroots basketball events organization in North America. Founded in 2014, our mission has always been Maximizing Athletes' Development and Exposure (MADE). We host 100+ boys and girls basketball events annually, including competitive camps for all ages, middle school and high school tournaments, and the top independent high school circuit in the country. We're proud to have countless McDonald's All-Americans, NCAA athletes, and NBA stars among our alumni. The gym extends that mission into a year-round home for Brooklyn's next generation of hoopers.

About The Role

We're looking for a resourceful, community-minded Marketing Intern to help grow MADE HMBL Gym's local presence and member base for 15-20 hours per week. This is a hands-on, on-site role at our Fort Greene facility where you'll do a little bit of everything: capturing content during live training sessions, deploying email campaigns, building our review engine, writing ad copy, and researching the competitive landscape. If you want to learn what it actually takes to market a brick-and-mortar business from the ground up, this is that opportunity.

Your Job

Help fill our training sessions and grow the gym's reputation in Brooklyn. You'll work directly with our Director of Marketing and alongside the gym's General Management, Creative, and Training staff to drive reviews, execute email and social campaigns, support paid advertising, and surface insights that shape how we go to market.

What You'll Do

Reviews & Local Presence (20%)
  • Own our review growth engine - identify satisfied members and parents after sessions and prompt them for Google reviews through QR codes, follow-up texts, and post-session emails
  • Maintain and optimize the gym's Google Business Profile: hours, photos, services, Q&A, and weekly posts
  • Keep Yelp, Apple Maps, and other local directories accurate and consistent
  • Draft responses to every review - positive and negative - for manager approval
  • Capture member testimonials and athlete progress stories on-site for use across email, social, and paid
  • Track review volume, average rating, and source month over month in a simple reporting sheet
Email Marketing (20%)
  • Assist with building, proofing, and deploying email campaigns in Klaviyo - session promos, program launches, monthly training themes, and event recaps
  • Help manage list segmentation across prospects, active members, lapsed members, and camp attendees
  • QA every send before it goes out: links, UTMs, subject lines, preview text, and mobile rendering
  • Pull post-send analytics (open rate, click rate, conversion, revenue) and log results in our campaign tracker
  • Build and clean cold outreach lists - local schools, AAU and travel programs, youth leagues, and Brooklyn businesses - with verified contacts and documented sourcing
  • Support ongoing automated flows including welcome, post-session follow-up, and win-back
Social Media & Paid Advertising (50%)
  • Capture photo and short-form video on-site during training sessions, group classes, and events
  • Edit and publish short-form content to Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook against our content calendar
  • Write captions, hooks, and hashtags that fit the MADE voice
  • Schedule and publish posts, monitor comments and DMs, and route member questions to the right team member
  • Draft ad copy variations for Meta and Instagram campaigns supporting session bookings, program signups, and lead generation
  • Assist with building, duplicating, and publishing ads in Meta Ads Manager; help monitor pacing and flag creative fatigue
  • Keep our content library and asset folders organized and named consistently
Research, Partnerships & Reporting (10%)
  • Conduct ongoing competitor analysis of NYC-area training facilities and gyms - pricing, programming, promotional offers, social cadence, ad creative, and review profiles
  • Build and maintain a competitive tracker updated monthly with screenshots and takeaways
  • Research and source local partnership opportunities with schools, AAU programs, youth leagues, and neighborhood businesses for cross-promotion and lead generation
  • Assist with partnership outreach and follow-up
  • Maintain a simple marketing dashboard covering reviews, email performance, social growth, ad results, and session bookings
  • Present a short monthly recap of wins, learnings, and recommendations

What Success Looks Like

  • Within 30 days: you're independently running the review request process and publishing to social on schedule
  • Within 60 days: you're building and deploying email campaigns with minimal edits and maintaining the competitive tracker
  • Within 90 days: you've measurably grown our review count and rating, built a usable partnership pipeline, and have a portfolio of content the gym is actively using

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Sports Management, or a related field
  • Able to work on-site at our Fort Greene, Brooklyn facility for scheduled shifts, including some evenings and weekends when programming runs
  • Comfortable shooting photo and video on a smartphone and editing short-form content
  • Strong written communication skills and a good ear for brand voice
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail - you're the person who catches the typo in the subject line
  • Comfortable approaching members, parents, and coaches in person to request reviews and testimonials
  • Self-starter who can own recurring tasks without reminders
  • Proficiency in Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Slides)

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with Klaviyo, Mailchimp, or another email service provider
  • Experience with Meta Business Suite or Meta Ads Manager
  • Working knowledge of Google Business Profile and local SEO fundamentals
  • Comfort with CapCut, Canva, Adobe Premiere, or Lightroom
  • Experience with list-building or prospecting tools such as Apollo, Hunter, or LinkedIn Sales Navigator
  • Passion for basketball and youth athletics, and familiarity with the Brooklyn and NYC hoops scene

MADE Hoops is the leader in youth basketball events and experiences. We run 150+ events a year and have put 150,000+ athletes on the national stage through the most competitive middle school leagues in the country, alongside elite high school camps, tournaments, and showcases. MADE stands for Maximizing Athlete Development and Exposure. That is not a tagline. It is a promise we make to every player who steps onto one of our courts, every parent in the stands, and every fan watching from home. It is the standard we hold every event, every circuit, and every experience to. Every court we set up exists to close the gap between where an athlete is and where they are capable of going. Our formula is elite competition, high-level coaching and training, unparalleled media coverage, and professionally run events that give every athlete a real shot at their next opportunity. The results speak for themselves. NBA players like Tyrese Maxey, Bam Adebayo, Trae Young, RJ Barrett, Malik Monk, Michael Porter Jr., Darius Garland, and Cooper Flagg all came through MADE. The next wave of AJ Dybantsa, Cameron Boozer, Kiyan Anthony, and Tyran Stokes is on its way. The future of basketball starts here.
