About the role

We're hiring a Senior Web Designer to lead how the websites we build look and feel.

You'll lead UI design for websites and eCommerce sites, from first concept through launch. You'll design homepages, navigation, page templates and the modular content blocks that hold a site together. You'll also build the design systems that let a family of brands share one foundation, and that a client's own team can keep using long after launch.

You'll design for a range of brands across consumer goods, healthcare, financial services, hospitality and retail. Expect a new brand to bring to life every few months, and launches you can point to. We're growing, and so is the work.

You'll turn brand, UX flows and content into high-fidelity, build-ready designs for desktop and mobile. You'll work closely with UX, strategy, development and marketing, and carry your design intent through build, QA and launch.

Our Experience team sits at the heart of every build. We're looking for a senior designer who can lead UI across projects, raise our standards, and help our design systems mature alongside the work.

We've been building our own AI tools since 2024, and we want a designer who's glad to bring AI into the work, from early exploration through handoff.

This is a senior, client-facing role. You can be local or remote, though we have a soft spot for folks in New England or the wider Northeast so we can get in a room now and then. You'll report to our VP of Experience.

About Anchour

Anchour is a creative agency of 40+ people focused on building unforgettable brands and digital experiences that help businesses punch above their weight.

We're headquartered in Maine and partner with small businesses and growing brands in industries like consumer goods, nutrition, fitness, financial services, hospitality and retail. Our work spans brand strategy, identity design, website design and development, content strategy, and full-service marketing.

We call ourselves Creative Pragmatists. Great work happens when smart people are trusted to do it. We've built a place where talented people have real ownership, real influence over direction, and the room to do the best work of their careers.

What You'll Do

  • Own website UI design from concept to launch. Lead interface design across projects with little oversight. Turn brand identity, UX flows, and content into high-fidelity, build-ready designs for desktop and mobile, with WCAG 2.2 AA built in from the first artboard. Whether the brand system is ours or comes from another team, you translate it into a site experience that feels unmistakably on-brand.
  • Design the whole site. Homepages, landing pages, navigation, footers and page templates. You art-direct photography, layout rhythm and motion, and you design for real content, not ideal content.
  • Build the systems behind the sites. Page templates, modular content blocks and component libraries that hold up across breakpoints and in the hands of a client's content team. Typography, color, spacing and motion are documented as design tokens, so a client's team can extend the system long after launch without breaking it. Every state, variant and redline is accounted for.
  • Prototype to earn the yes. Build high-fidelity prototypes of key pages and interactions, and get stakeholders to sign off before development starts.
  • Hand off so developers build it right. Deliver organized, documented Figma files and implementation-ready specs, including for partners building in AEM or Shopify. Work side by side with our front-end developers, who build in WordPress and Shopify, through build and QA so the finished site matches what you designed.
  • Lead the work. Be the UI lead on your projects. Make confident calls grounded in user needs, business goals, accessibility and what's buildable. Scope your design to the budget and timeline, and catch risks before they turn into rework.
  • Raise our standards. Contribute to our design systems, documentation and reviews. Share what you know with the Experience and Creative teams, and help shape how we design and deliver.
  • Put AI to work. Use our AI tools across your workflow, from early exploration to documentation to QA, and help the team build fluency over time.

What We'd Like To See

  • 5+ years designing websites, including several full sites taken from concept through launch. Homepages, navigation, page templates, the whole thing. Agency or studio experience strongly preferred. Your portfolio of live, shipped websites is the most important part of your application. Show us you can design a website.
  • Craft fundamentals. Typography, color, layout, hierarchy and motion. You know how to make a website's interface feel inevitable.
  • Systems thinking. You've built website design systems and component libraries that other people can pick up and extend. You design for the whole site, from homepage to footer.
  • Accessibility in your bones. A strong grasp of usability and WCAG 2.2 AA, built into how you work.
  • Figma expertise. Fluent in Figma and collaborative design workflows. Comfortable working with developers through build and QA, with a solid understanding of front-end fundamentals and how a CMS shapes design. Experience with Shopify or eCommerce is a plus, and so is designing for headless or enterprise CMS handoffs.
  • Ownership. You scope to budget, juggle several projects at once, communicate early, and own the outcome.
  • A low-ego, curious teammate. Collaborative, invested in making the work and the team better, and glad to bring AI into how you design.
  • Northeast-based, ideally. We're a Maine company and we love getting our people in the same room, so New England or the wider Northeast is a big plus.

If most of your experience is designing inside apps or SaaS products, this probably isn't the right fit. We're looking for someone who designs websites day in and day out.

Work Style

  • You own your projects. UI runs through you, and it's better for it.
  • You communicate before you're asked. You get status, risks and decisions to the team early.
  • You partner across the room. UX, copy, dev and marketing all come out stronger.
  • You design for the build. You know how your choices land in development, and you plan for it.
  • You sweat the details. Usability, beauty, accessibility and polish aren't optional.
  • You take the work seriously. Not yourself.

What You'll Get

  • Competitive Salary. We pay well for great work.
  • Flexible Work. Hybrid out of Maine when you're nearby, remote when you're not, with time together in New England when it counts.
  • Retirement. Savings plan with a 4% company match.
  • Premium Insurance. Premium health, dental, vision and life insurance with generous coverage for our US-based team members.
  • Optional HSA. An optional health savings account to set aside money on a pre-tax basis for medical expenses.
  • Home Office Setup. A laptop plus 50% reimbursement for home office equipment.
  • Paid & Flexible Holidays. 12 paid holidays throughout the year, including three flexible holidays.
  • Paid Time Off. At least three weeks of paid time off per year.
  • Paid Leaves. Paid parental, medical, bereavement and other types of leave.
  • Flexible & Summer Fridays. Half-day Fridays throughout the summer, and a get-it-done-and-go mindset year-round.
  • Lifelong Learners Fund. Cash for professional development like books, conferences and courses, plus team bonding fun.
  • Baby Bonding Bucks. A $500 bonus to cover diapers, meals and other expenses for any employee welcoming a new child.
