Role Description The Assistant UI/UX Designer role at Laura James is a full-time, on-site position based in the City of Cape Town. This role supports the design team in creating intuitive, visually appealing digital experiences that reflect the brand’s aesthetic and values. Day-to-day tasks include assisting with user interface design for web and mobile, preparing design assets, refining layouts, and maintaining consistency with existing design systems. The Assistant UI/UX Designer will help conduct basic user research, gather feedback, and collaborate with designers, developers, and marketing to improve customer journeys across digital touchpoints. The role also involves documenting design specifications and supporting updates to existing interfaces in line with usability best practices.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in UI/UX principles, including visual hierarchy, layout, typography, and interaction design.
• Proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar applications.
• Basic experience with user research methods, wireframing, and creating user flows or journey maps.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate design decisions clearly.
• Attention to detail and ability to translate brand guidelines into consistent digital designs.
• Relevant qualification in Design, Interaction Design, Digital Media, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Portfolio demonstrating UI/UX work for web or mobile interfaces; experience in e-commerce or retail is an advantage.
• Comfort working on-site in the City of Cape Town and managing multiple design tasks in a fast-paced environment.
