A varied, hands-on role combining retail sales and customer service with administration, stock management, online fulfilment and seasonal rental support. You will provide knowledgeable advice on technical outdoor products while helping keep store systems and daily operations accurate and efficient. The role requires flexibility to switch between the shop floor and stockroom, and to prioritise competing tasks.
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of outdoor retail experience and 1 year of administration or relative experience.
- Proficiency in Shopify, Bike Rental Manager (BRM), Cin7 and Xero.
- Experience with purchase orders and invoices; receiving and processing stock; stock takes and transfers.
- Experience with banking/financial administration, online order picking, packing and dispatch, courier coordination and ordering store supplies.
- Strong technical outdoor product knowledge across waterproof outerwear, insulation, footwear, snow goggles and helmets, climbing gear, packs, tents etc.
- Knowledge of leading outdoor brands such as Patagonia, Arc'teryx, The North Face, On and Salomon, or similar premium brands.
- Strong organisation, accuracy, communication and prioritisation skills; able to multitask calmly in a busy environment.
- Positive, professional, customer-focused and reliable; able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Multilingual skills are advantageous.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Retail & Customer Service
- Welcome customers, understand their needs and provide tailored, knowledgeable advice on outdoor clothing, footwear and equipment.
- Process sales through Shopify; assist with rentals through Bike Rental Manager, store opening/closing, replenishment, promotions and events as required.
- Maintain high service standards, handle customer concerns calmly and escalate when needed.
Administration & Finance
- Process purchase orders and supplier invoices; assist with Xero administration, invoice checking and daily banking.
- Monitor and order stationery, packaging and store supplies, and liaise with suppliers and service providers.
Stock & Online Fulfilment
- Receive and check deliveries against purchase orders, identify discrepancies or damage, and maintain accurate Cin7 inventory.
- Conduct stock takes, transfers, top-ups and replenishment; keep storage areas organised and accessible.
- Efficiently pick, pack and dispatch online orders, prepare shipping documents and coordinate courier collections and delivery issues.
Rentals & Seasonal Services
- Manage hiking equipment rentals in BRM, including stock taking, preparing, issuing, receiving and inspecting equipment; explain rental terms and safety requirements and report missing or damaged items.
- Assist with seasonal services such as fishing licence sales and NZSKI Superpass processing, and provide local outdoor information when required.
Presentation, Teamwork & Safety
- Maintain high visual merchandising and store presentation standards, including displays, window merchandising and tidy shop-floor/back-stock areas.
- Develop product knowledge through training; support other departments and take ownership of tasks, communicating proactively with the team.
- Follow company policies, health and safety, emergency and security procedures; report hazards/incidents promptly and only operate equipment when trained or authorised.
- Maintain professional appearance and confidentiality, communicate availability and absences, attend required training/meetings and undertake other reasonable duties as directed.
